Dr Katie James

Dr Katie James is a Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist with specialist accreditation in Addiction Psychiatry. She offers comprehensive psychiatric assessments and evidence-based interventions for individuals experiencing a broad spectrum of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar affective disorder, psychosis, and complex emotional needs. Her clinical practice is dedicated to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care, with particular expertise in supporting adults with co-occurring mental health challenges, neurodiversity, and substance misuse difficulties.

Dr James completed her medical training with distinction, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery with Honours (MBChB Hons). In addition, she earned a Bachelor of Science with Honours (BSc Hons). She is a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) and holds formal accreditation in Addiction Psychiatry. Her educational background and professional memberships reflect a rigorous standard of clinical practice and a dedication to high-quality mental healthcare.

Having gained extensive clinical experience across a variety of healthcare settings—including community mental health teams, acute inpatient wards, specialised prison services, and outpatient clinics—Dr James applies a trauma-informed framework to her clinical work. Serving as a Clinical Lead within community addiction services, she has substantial expertise in managing complex substance dependencies, including alcohol, prescription medications, and novel psychoactive substances. Dr James works collaboratively with each patient to construct personalised treatment plans that integrate biological, psychological, and social perspectives to support long-term recovery and enhanced well-being.
