About Dr Gautam Bhatia
Dr Gautam Bhatia is a knowledgeable Consultant Psychiatrist who currently works for South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust, as well as being a visiting consultant at Priory Hospital Hayes Grove. Dr Bhatia has extensive experience as a general adult psychiatrist and approved clinician. He became a consultant in 2014, and has since gained experience in specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of patients presenting with a wide variety of mental health problems; including but not limited to common disorders such as depression, anxiety, psychosis, stress, PTSD and personality disorders.
Dr Bhatia holds a medical degree, as well as a postgraduate certificate in medical leadership. He is an approved examiner for MRCPsych exams (membership exams) with the Royal College of Psychiatrists, and is also a Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists. He trained in highly acclaimed and reputed institutes of psychiatry - University College and Maudsley training programmes. He is dual specialist trained in general adult psychiatry and liaison psychiatry.
The basis of Dr Bhatia's clinical practice is understanding the root cause of a problem in order to help patients alleviate their distress. He takes a holistic approach, treating each patient as an individual by considering their beliefs and circumstances. The latest medical evidence is used when considering treatment modalities, which can include combining pharmacological and psychotherapeutic options.

Dr Bhatia is very good, he is kind and considerate, listens to your concerns and answers all your questions whilst also politely challenging you and giving you a different point of view
Dr. Bhatia is always attentive and genuinely interested in understanding my progress holistically, taking into account the many different elements that could affect it rather than focusing only on superficial symptoms. Dr. Bhatia consistently shows care and openness in discussing my opinions, and he patiently explains the different considerations, including both the risks and benefits that may affect each decision. I really appreciate that he creates space for reflection and collaboration, rather than simply giving a professional opinion without fully involving me in the process. Working in this way feels supportive and thoughtful, and it helps us work together to figure out what is truly best for me.
Dr Bhatia was friendly and respectful, and made me feel at ease when discussing my difficulties without judgement.

Follow up appointment to check on Bipolar type 2 progress. Good appointment discussed ongoing symptoms and Dr advised slight increase in medication. Overall it was helpful!
