Dr Katherine Burnand

Dr Katherine Burnand is a highly dedicated Consultant Neonatal and Paediatric Surgeon who provides expert surgical care for infants, children, and young people. Specialising in the surgical management of a wide range of childhood conditions, she is committed to delivering compassionate, patient-centred care. Her clinical practice encompasses both routine and complex surgical procedures, ensuring that young patients receive the highest standard of treatment tailored to their unique developmental needs.

With a broad range of clinical interests, Dr Burnand has extensive expertise in general paediatric surgery, neonatal surgery, and major trauma. She has a particular interest in thoracic surgery, including the management of spontaneous pneumothorax and chest wall deformities, as well as paediatric oncology surgery. Additionally, she is highly skilled in minimally invasive techniques, such as laparoscopic surgery, which help to reduce recovery times and minimise discomfort for her young patients. Her clinical work also covers gastrointestinal conditions, including the management of bowel strictures, malrotation, and enteral tube feeding.

Dr Burnand began her medical journey by earning a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. She subsequently obtained her Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in 2009, followed by her Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Paediatric Surgery. Committed to professional collaboration and the advancement of her field, she is an active member of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons.
