Dr Justin Mencel

Dr Justin Mencel is a highly dedicated Consultant Medical Oncologist specialising in the diagnosis and management of gastrointestinal malignancies and acute oncological conditions. He delivers compassionate, patient-centred care, treating a comprehensive range of gastrointestinal cancers including oesophagogastric, hepatobiliary, pancreatic, colorectal, small bowel, and anal cancers, as well as neuroendocrine tumours and cancers of unknown primary. Combining advanced clinical practice with empathetic communication, Dr Mencel works closely with multidisciplinary teams to design individualised, evidence-based treatment plans tailored to each patient's specific diagnosis and clinical needs.

In his daily clinical practice, Dr Mencel integrates cutting-edge oncological advancements to optimise patient outcomes and quality of life. His clinical focus encompasses modern systemic treatments such as advanced chemotherapy regimens, novel immunotherapies, and precision targeted therapies. He has a particular interest in precision oncology, incorporating comprehensive genomic profiling, circulating tumour DNA analysis, and non-invasive liquid biopsies into clinical workflows to refine diagnostics, monitor minimal residual disease, and guide targeted therapeutic choices. Dr Mencel earned his medical degree (MBBS) from the University of Adelaide before completing specialist training in Medical Oncology. He subsequently completed a higher research degree, earning an MD(Res) focused on the clinical application of circulating tumour DNA in gastrointestinal cancers. Dr Mencel is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) and maintains active professional memberships with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO).
