Mr. Joseph Gabriel is a specialist consultant urologist and robotic surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust with a particular focus on prostate cancer, and is among a small number of surgeons in the UK dual-accredited in both robotic and focal therapy techniques. He is recognised for his expertise in advanced, minimally invasive treatments aimed at improving outcomes and recovery for patients with urological cancers.
He qualified in medicine and surgery in 2015 from the Brighton and Sussex Medical School and further strengthened his academic foundation with an MSc in Surgical Sciences from the University of Edinburgh. Mr Gabriel completed his surgical and urological training within the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery, gaining experience in leading regional centres for robotic urology, and went on to achieve Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS Urol).
He subsequently undertook a specialist fellowship in pelvic urological cancers, at the Royal Surrey, the highest volume centre in the UK for robotic prostatectomy, focusing on prostate and bladder cancer, with advanced training in robotic prostatectomy and cystectomy. His clinical practice includes nerve-sparing robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, including the advanced Retzius-sparing approach which have been shown to improve early bladder control and erectile function after surgery, as well as precision focal therapy for prostate cancer (HIFU - high-intensity focused ultrasound and cryotherapy).
He is also actively involved in research, with interests in robotic surgery and artificial intelligence, is a member of Imperial Prostate group at Imperial College London, contributing to cutting-edge research in prostate cancer, and has presented and published his work both nationally and internationally. He is the lead urology cancer clinician in his NHS practice and prides himself on having a compassionate bedside manner and personalised approach tailored to each of his patients.
