Dr John Canny

Dr John Canny is a highly skilled and reassuring Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon who is dedicated to providing exceptional, patient-centred care. He specialises in minimally invasive surgery of the colon and rectum, with a particular focus on treating colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. In addition to managing complex bowel conditions, Dr Canny treats a wide range of benign abdominal and pelvic issues, including hernias, haemorrhoids, and various anorectal disorders. His clinical approach combines advanced surgical techniques with clear, compassionate communication to ensure patients feel fully supported throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Canny obtained his primary medical qualification, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) in 2010. He went on to achieve Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) in 2015 and completed a Master of Surgery (ChM) in 2021. He completed his extensive specialist surgical training in Northern Ireland, followed by a prestigious pelvic malignancy fellowship in Birmingham from 2023 to 2024, where he gained advanced training in managing complex, advanced, and recurrent rectal cancers. Dr Canny is also a Joint Advisory Group (JAG) Accredited Colonoscopist, qualifying him to perform expert endoscopic procedures. He is an active member of the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland.
