Mr Colman Byrnes

Mr Colman K. Byrnes is a consultant general and colorectal surgeon who sees patients at The Mid Ulster Clinic in Magherafelt. He also works at Antrim Area Hospital and Kingsbridge Private Hospital in Belfast.

At The Mid Ulster Clinic, he provides assessment and treatment for a wide range of colorectal and general surgical concerns. These include investigation of abdominal pain, changes in bowel habits, unintentional weight loss, rectal bleeding, haemorrhoids, anal fistulae, pilonidal sinus, and family history of bowel disease. He also offers colonoscopy services. In general surgery, he treats hernias, gallstones, skin and subcutaneous lesions, and carpal tunnel syndrome. He performs gastrointestinal endoscopy and laparoscopic gallbladder surgery.

Mr Byrnes completed his medical degree and a BSc in Physiology at Queen’s University Belfast. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in 1997 and completed his postgraduate training in Northern Ireland, with a laparoscopic surgery fellowship in Dublin. He also carried out surgical research at Johns Hopkins University in the United States, which led to the award of an MD by thesis and a prize from the Wound Healing Society.
