Mr Freites is a Consultant Gynaecologist with advanced accredited training and extensive experience in urogynaecology and pelvic floor surgery. He is currently employed at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he serves as Urogynaecology Lead.
He began his specialist training in York in 2007, was admitted to Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2012, and completed higher specialist training in 2014. Since then, he has worked as a Consultant across York, Malton, and Scarborough hospitals. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, a senior professional distinction recognising his expertise and contribution to the specialty.
During his training, Mr Freites developed a strong interest in benign gynaecological pathology and its impact on women’s quality of life, particularly in relation to pelvic floor health. As he refined his surgical skills in both minimally invasive and open techniques, he developed a particular focus on pelvic floor dysfunction. To further his expertise, he completed an advanced training module in urogynaecology and vaginal surgery through the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, specialising in the treatment of complex pelvic floor prolapse and urinary incontinence.
Over the past decade, he has continued to expand his pelvic floor practice through dedicated clinical work, research activity, and service development. As Urogynaecology Lead for the Trust, he co chairs the Pelvic Floor Multidisciplinary Team and develops personalised care pathways tailored to each patient’s needs.
Through his specialist clinical work and service development, Mr Freites regularly receives referrals from consultant colleagues across York and Scarborough, including colleagues from other specialties, for the treatment of complex pelvic floor pathology. This includes minimal access and joint specialty laparoscopic surgery for multi compartment pelvic organ prolapse, and specialist non mesh continence procedures such as fascial sling surgery and colposuspension for complex or recurrent urinary incontinence that would previously have required referral outside the Trust.
He is known for his warm, approachable, and patient centred style of care. He takes time to listen carefully, understand how symptoms affect day to day life, and explains findings and treatment options clearly and in easy to understand terms. He is a strong advocate for shared decision making, ensuring every patient feels heard, well informed, and comfortable with the plan agreed together.

I couldn't have asked for better care. Mr. Freites was very professional and caring. He explained everything to me. He didn't rush and he put me very much at ease. Would recommend him to anyone.
6 week post operation review Mr Freites was polite, friendly and professional as always. We talked about what went well and how I was recovering and next stages
Mr Freites is so clear in everything that he explains, he has an excellent manner and puts you at ease straight away.
Mr Freites and all the team are really lovely. I was very reassured and if you need a cystoscopy please consider a flexible one over one with a general anaesthetic it really doesn’t hurt and you are talked through every step. I wouldn’t even call it uncomfortable completely pain free
I would like to thank mr Freites for the ongoing care and attention provided during appointments / treatment etc I truly appreciate the clear explanations, patience in answering questions and I always feel comfortable throughout the process. Mr Freites expertise and professionalism gives me confidence in the treatments.
I was treated with kindness and respect. My questions were answered well and I went away feeling more confident than I did when I went in.
Mr Freites was delightful, caring, didn’t rush, explained things in a very simple manner Worst part was waiting almost 2hours on an uncomfortable chair in a corridor

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave such thoughtful feedback. I am delighted that you felt listened to, cared for, and that everything was explained clearly. It is especially important to me that you did not feel rushed during your appointment, as providing compassionate, unhurried care is a key part of the experience we aim to offer every patient within the pelvic floor service. I am sorry that you experienced such a long wait and appreciate the discomfort and frustration this may have caused. The NHS Pelvic Floor Clinic brings together a multidisciplinary team for patients with longstanding and often complex pelvic floor problems. Many are referred late in their treatment journey, after other options have already been explored, and their consultations can therefore take longer than a standard outpatient appointment. Where possible, patients may also undergo relevant investigations or receive treatment during the same visit. This one stop approach is designed to make the best use of each appointment, provide coordinated care, and avoid further unnecessary delays. We are reviewing the NHS clinic templates used for these multidisciplinary appointments so that they better reflect the complexity of care that some of our patients may require, improve clinic flow, and reduce unnecessary delays while preserving the time each patient needs so that no one feels rushed. Thank you again for your kind words and for highlighting an area where the service can continue to improve.
