About Mr Jawad Freites

Mr Freites is a Consultant Gynaecologist with advanced accredited training and extensive experience in urogynaecology and pelvic floor surgery. He is currently employed at York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, where he serves as Urogynaecology Lead.

He began his specialist training in York in 2007, was admitted to Membership of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2012, and completed higher specialist training in 2014. Since then, he has worked as a Consultant across York, Malton, and Scarborough hospitals. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, a senior professional distinction recognising his expertise and contribution to the specialty.

During his training, Mr Freites developed a strong interest in benign gynaecological pathology and its impact on women’s quality of life, particularly in relation to pelvic floor health. As he refined his surgical skills in both minimally invasive and open techniques, he developed a particular focus on pelvic floor dysfunction. To further his expertise, he completed an advanced training module in urogynaecology and vaginal surgery through the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, specialising in the treatment of complex pelvic floor prolapse and urinary incontinence.

Over the past decade, he has continued to expand his pelvic floor practice through dedicated clinical work, research activity, and service development. As Urogynaecology Lead for the Trust, he co chairs the Pelvic Floor Multidisciplinary Team and develops personalised care pathways tailored to each patient’s needs.

Through his specialist clinical work and service development, Mr Freites regularly receives referrals from consultant colleagues across York and Scarborough, including colleagues from other specialties, for the treatment of complex pelvic floor pathology. This includes minimal access and joint specialty laparoscopic surgery for multi compartment pelvic organ prolapse, and specialist non mesh continence procedures such as fascial sling surgery and colposuspension for complex or recurrent urinary incontinence that would previously have required referral outside the Trust.

He is known for his warm, approachable, and patient centred style of care. He takes time to listen carefully, understand how symptoms affect day to day life, and explains findings and treatment options clearly and in easy to understand terms. He is a strong advocate for shared decision making, ensuring every patient feels heard, well informed, and comfortable with the plan agreed together.

Mr Freites could not be more helpful. He explains everything fully and makes it easy to understand and extremely clear. He delivers the information in such a fantastic manner. He's softly spoken, nothing is a silly question, made me feel so much at ease, gave you as much time as I needed, I didn't feel rushed in any way and I had lots of questions! I left the appointment filled with so much confidence in him that no matter what happened he would sort it and everything would be fine. Such a huge contrast from the previous appointment with a different person. Mr Freites eased my concerns and my worries. If you are lucky enough to have Mr Freites as your consultant you will be in great hands. Really nice man.

Mr Freites put me at ease instantly and explained everything thoroughly, all options were explained to me very well. I didn’t feel embarrassed at the examination as a lovely lady came in as a chaperone and distracted me very well. Afterwards pictures were shown which really helped me as I am a visual person, I was given leaflets and time to think with no pressure on me to make an immediate decision. I would highly recommend Mr Freites.

I had the privilege of meeting with consultant Mr Jawad Freites yesterday the 17th June for my first appointment. I can say with sincerity, it was one of the most positive healthcare experiences I have ever had. From the moment I entered the consultation room, he was warm, approachable, and exceptionally professional and impeccably smart. He listened carefully to everything I had to say, without making me feel rushed, he showed genuine empathy, and explained my condition and treatment options in a way that was both clear and reassuring. His knowledge and expertise were immediately apparent, but it was his compassion, patience, and ability to put me at ease that made such a lasting impression. I left the appointment feeling heard, respected, and confident in the plan moving forward. It is rare to find a consultant who combines outstanding clinical expertise with such a caring and personable manner. I am extremely grateful for the time and attention he gave me and would recommend him without any hesitation to anyone seeking exceptional medical care. Thank you for providing such an outstanding level of service and support Mr Freites. I'm feeling confident to proceed with my upcoming surgery, Thank you for your outstanding care and reassurance..

I had tried numerous things to stop urine leakage. Medication and physio. Nothing worked until I had bulkimid implants. This procedure has worked wonderfully. I had the procedure under local anaesthetic, it took less then an hour and I was back on the day ward up and dressed within 2 hours. The procedure was uncomfortable and a bit embarrassing but the team were fantabulous, they made me feel totally st ease . The consultant explained every move he made so I knew what to expect and how it would feel. The first few days I experienced some stinging but then it was fine, no more leaks. I even went on my daughters rebound trampoline to test it. No leaks. I wish I had it done years ago. I cannot thank Dr freites and the team enough.

Mr Freites and the team at Niffield York have been truly welcoming today. I felt at ease as soon as I entered. Mr Freites was very calming, explained everything in great detail and really took the time to understand my symptoms. Nurse Jan joined him for my examination and they both put me at complete ease.

I could not be happier that Mr Freites is my surgeon. From last year when I met him, to today, he has been nothing but kind, understanding and an incredible surgeon. Contacting Vicky, Mr Freites excellent secretary couldn’t be easier. She is so quick to respond and so kind and helpful. I contacted Vicky a few weeks ago and she did everything she could to get me in to see Mr Freites as soon as possible. Today I felt listened to, and cared for by Mr Freites. He is an amazing doctor and a lovely person.

The best experience I have had regarding my bladder incontinence. I felt I was listened to, and had a thorough physical examination which was carried out by the nurse assisted by Mr Frietes. I've not had this before. I was given three options regarding my condition. A totally professional appointment from beginning to end.
