About Mr Jamie O'Callaghan

Mr O'Callaghan is an experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon who provides comprehensive, patient-centred care for a wide array of spinal conditions. He is dedicated to delivering individualised treatment plans that combine evidence-based medicine with modern surgical innovations. With expertise spanning both conservative non-operative management and advanced surgical interventions, Mr O'Callaghan places a strong emphasis on shared decision-making, ensuring patients are thoroughly informed and empowered throughout their care journey. Where clinically appropriate, he is a proponent of day-case procedures and minimally invasive spinal techniques designed to facilitate smoother recoveries.

Mr O'Callaghan graduated with his medical degree from the University of Southampton in 2012. He completed his academic foundation training in Cardiff and basic surgical training in Bristol before undertaking specialist Trauma and Orthopaedic training within the Severn deanery. To further refine his expertise, he completed two prestigious, high-volume complex spinal fellowships. The first focused on adult and paediatric spinal deformity in Taunton, Somerset, while the second was an international fellowship in London, Ontario, Canada, integrating both orthopaedic and neurosurgical spinal surgery techniques. Mr O'Callaghan holds Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and actively registers patient outcomes with the British Spinal Registry to support continuous quality improvement.

In clinical practice, Mr O'Callaghan assesses and manages degenerative, traumatic, and complex pathologies across the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine. His expertise encompasses common conditions such as sciatica, low back pain, discitis, spondylosis, spinal stenosis, and spondylolisthesis, alongside complex cervical radiculopathy and myelopathy. He also possesses specialist expertise in managing acute spinal trauma, vertebral compression fractures, spinal cord injuries, spinal infections, metastatic spinal cord compression, coccydynia, and sacroiliac joint dysfunction.

Working alongside multi-disciplinary healthcare teams, Mr O'Callaghan ensures that every aspect of assessment, treatment, and post-operative rehabilitation is closely coordinated. Alongside his clinical commitment, he serves as a Doctors in Training Lead, taking an active role in mentoring and educating future surgeons. He also regularly contributes to clinical research, peer-reviews articles for international medical journals, and participates in clinical governance meetings to maintain the highest standards of safety and patient care.
