Dr James Widnall

Dr James Widnall is an accomplished Consultant Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgeon who provides dedicated surgical and non-surgical care for children and young people. He treats a broad range of general paediatric orthopaedic conditions, handling both elective procedures and acute trauma cases. Dr Widnall is deeply committed to delivering compassionate, reassuring, and evidence-based medical care that helps young patients restore movement and achieve optimal developmental outcomes.

In his clinical practice, Dr Widnall maintains a specialised interest in movement disorders, gait abnormalities, and the surgical and non-surgical management of the neuromuscular foot. He works extensively with children affected by complex neuromuscular conditions, including cerebral palsy, spina bifida, and Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease. Additionally, his clinical expertise encompasses paediatric trauma care, including the treatment and reconstruction of forearm and ankle fractures.

Dr Widnall completed his medical degree at the University of Liverpool before undertaking specialist postgraduate training in orthopaedics within the Mersey Deanery. He subsequently completed advanced fellowship training in paediatric orthopaedics, followed by a fellowship focusing specifically on paediatric neuromuscular disease and movement disorders. Recognised for his contributions to orthopaedic research and education, Dr Widnall has received prestigious accolades, including winning the Hugh Owen Thomas Research prize on two occasions and the 'Best of the Best' presentation award from the British Orthopaedic Association.
