About Mr James Kirkby-Bott
Mr Kirkby-Bott is an experienced endocrine, hernia and gallbladder general consultant surgeon. See JamesKirkbyBott.com
He trained at the Hammersmith Hospital Endocrine centre in London and was the international Endocrine Fellow at Lille, France. With his knowledge and passion for endocrine he set up the Wessex Endocrine Society. Extensive endocrine training all around the world has given Mr Kirkby-Bott the expertise and the experience to manage parathyroid, thyroid and adrinal surgery / conditions.
He helped set up the emergency surgery service at UHS too so has extensive experience in acute gallbladder surgery and hernia surgery. Mr Kirkby-Bott has particular experience using a local anaesthetic and sedation technique that makes hernia surgery available as a daycase to everyone; including the older and frailer patients that have been turned down for general anaesthetic. Findings so far suggest less compliactions from local anaesthetic repairs as we are able to test the repair during surgery.

Local anaesthetic surgery techniques to aid comfort and quicker recovery. This aids with all types of surgery and Mr Kirkby-Bott uses these principles in all operations - in particular he has developed the technique to be used without general anaesthetic in hernia surgery making daycase hernia surgery available to all; including those turned down for generl anaesthetic due to frailty or other illnesses.
