Dr James Hernon

Dr James Hernon is a dedicated Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon who delivers compassionate, evidence-based care for patients with gastrointestinal and abdominal conditions. He maintains a comprehensive practice covering routine and complex surgical needs, with a strong focus on advanced robotic-assisted procedures and minimally invasive surgery. Dr Hernon is committed to ensuring that every individual receives clear communication, personal guidance, and high-quality clinical care tailored to their needs.

His clinical interests encompass the management of colorectal cancer, pelvic floor disorders, and inflammatory bowel disease. Dr Hernon routinely performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including colonoscopy, colorectal resections, pelvic floor operations, and bowel stenting. He also leads research into prehabilitation and rehabilitation exercise programmes, aiming to help patients prepare physically for major surgery and achieve optimal recovery and long-term quality of life.

Dr Hernon completed his medical degree and earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, alongside attaining Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons. To further enhance his expertise in complex bowel procedures, he completed an advanced overseas fellowship in New Zealand. Dedicated to medical education and clinical leadership, he also serves as an Honorary Senior Lecturer and surgical proctor, helping to train healthcare professionals in cutting-edge surgical techniques.
