Dr James Evans

Dr James Evans is a dedicated consultant Gastroenterologist at the Lister and New QEII Hospitals. With over a decade of experience in his field, Dr Evans graduated from Leicester/Warwick Medical School with a prize for Clinical medicine. He completed his speciality training in North West London working at centres of excellence including St Marks, St Mary’s and Royal London Hospitals. Dr Evans received his PhD from Queen Mary University of London in 2018, for his research into the biology of Barrett’s oesophagus and its role in cancer development. He has produced publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals and presented his work at international meetings.

At Lister and New QEII Hospitals, Dr Evans is responsible for inpatients with a variety of gastroenterological disorders, and runs regular gastroenterology outpatient clinics. His areas of interest include reflux and heartburn, Barrett’s oesophagus, IBS, constipation, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, upper GI physiology testing, investigation of abnormal liver function tests, and anaemia. 

He is also actively involved in medical education and training, serving as the Endoscopy training lead for the Trust and teaching on regional JAG accredited training courses for Upper GI endoscopy. As the Upper GI Cancer lead for the trust, Dr Evans is a member of the Regional Upper GI cancer Alliance and leads the Regional Laser service.
