Dr James Blackmur

Dr James Blackmur is a highly accomplished Consultant Urologist who specialises in the comprehensive management of kidney conditions and reconstructive urology. With a patient-centred approach, he is dedicated to delivering advanced urological care, utilising state-of-the-art techniques to improve patient outcomes. His clinical practice encompasses a wide range of general urological concerns, with a particular focus on upper urinary tract reconstruction, endourology, and uro-oncology.

Dr Blackmur completed his medical degree at the University of Edinburgh before undertaking extensive postgraduate surgical training across south-east and west Scotland. He further advanced his academic and clinical expertise as an ECAT SCREDS Clinical Lecturer. To refine his surgical skills, he completed a prestigious specialist fellowship in Cambridge, where he gained intensive experience in robotic, laparoscopic, and open surgical techniques. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in Urology.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Blackmur is deeply committed to medical research and global health. He completed a Cancer Research UK PhD Fellowship at a leading genetics and cancer institute, focusing his scientific research on the management and treatment of ureteric obstruction. He also contributes his expertise internationally as a Board Member of a charitable organisation that promotes keyhole kidney surgery in low- and middle-income countries, demonstrating his dedication to advancing urological care both locally and globally.
