Prof. Jai Shankar is a respected Consultant Ophthalmologist at Wrexham Maelor Hospital. He offers high quality cataract surgery at Spire Yale. He also leads the Medical and Surgical Retina service with his main retinal interests being Age Related Macular Degeneration, Diabetic Retinopathy, Retinal Vein Occlusion and Macular Hole surgery.
A graduate of Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi, he completed his post-graduation at JIPMER, Pondicherry and J N Medical College, Belgaum, followed by a Vitreo-retinal Fellowship at Sankara Nethralaya, Chennai. In the UK, he has obtained higher surgical training at the Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology in Glasgow, Cardiff Eye Unit, St. Paul's Eye Unit in Liverpool and at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
Prof. Shankar is dedicated to participating in the education of junior ophthalmologists and serves as an examiner for The Royal College of Ophthalmologists, European Board of Ophthalmology and The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. He has also been a member of the Education & Training Committee of The Royal College of Ophthalmologists and is the ex-Chair of the Medical Training Initiative for International Medical Graduates Sub-committee. He is an Honorary Faculty member at Wrexham Univrsity, Cardiff University Medical School, Swansea University Medical School and the Biomedical Sciences Unit of Bangor University. Prof. Shankar is keenly involved in Medical Research and works in close collaboration with Wrexham University and the North Wales Clinical Research Centre. He has published extensively with over 50 publications in various national and international peer-reviewed journals.

Arrived on time and had to enquire after 30 mins wait with no info. Apparently Dr Shankar did not get notification that we were waiting even though we had been signed in by reception on time.
