Dr Iain Matthews

Dr Iain Matthews is a Consultant Cardiologist and Head of Service who provides high-quality, comprehensive cardiovascular care. He manages a broad spectrum of heart conditions, offering expert assessment, diagnostic testing, and tailored management plans for individuals presenting with cardiac symptoms. Dr Matthews is committed to delivering reassuring, patient-centred care, ensuring that each individual receives clear guidance and support throughout their diagnostic and treatment journey.

Dr Matthews completed his undergraduate medical training in Scotland before pursuing specialist postgraduate medical education in general internal medicine, qualifying first as a Physician and subsequently completing higher specialist training as a Cardiologist in the North East of England. His academic and clinical foundation is further enhanced by dedicated research experience, including a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Fellowship focused on cardiovascular health and clinical outcomes. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Physicians.

Within cardiology, Dr Matthews has established a sub-specialist interest in heart failure and complex cardiac devices. His expertise encompasses the selection, implantation, and ongoing management of advanced rhythm control equipment, including cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices, standard pacemakers, and implantable cardioverter defibrillators. He has also been instrumental in implementing cutting-edge remote digital monitoring technologies that allow cardiac devices to be checked and programmed remotely, reducing unnecessary trips to clinical facilities and making care more convenient for patients.
