About Dr. Himadri Chakraborty
Dr. Himadri Chakraborty is a Consultant Paediatrician with over 25 years of experience in general paediatrics and neonatology, with a particular focus on gastrointestinal, allergic, and respiratory disorders in children. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health since 2011. He served as the Clinical Lead for Children’s Services at Basildon Hospital, where he had overseen the delivery of high-quality paediatric care and leads on service development and clinical governance.
Dr. Chakraborty runs dedicated Paediatric Gastroenterology Clinics at Basildon Hospital, managing a wide range of complex gastrointestinal conditions such as chronic constipation, gastro-oesophageal reflux, coeliac disease, inflammatory bowel disease (including Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), multiple food allergies, and eosinophilic gastrointestinal diseases.
He is also the Unit Training Director for Locally Employed Doctors at Basildon .He is the former Chair of the Paediatricians with an Interest in Gastroenterology (PeGHAN Group of British Society of Paediatric Gastroenterology , Hepatology and Nutrition )in the UK from 2017-2022. He is the author of the National UK curriculum of Special Interest in Paediatric Gastroenterology which is published on the RCPCH website . He served as the Lead for SPIN Training in Paediatric Gastroenterology from 2017-2023. In addition, Dr. Chakraborty is an Examiner for the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH) and an accredited APLS Instructor.
Dr. Chakraborty holds an Honorary Senior Lectureship at Anglia Ruskin University, where he supervises senior trainees undertaking advanced modules in paediatrics and neonatology. He has presented at several international conferences and has been invited as a guest speaker at national forums. Under his leadership , Basildon Paediatrics Department has won the Best Training Prize at the Easty of England Annual Paediatrics Award twice and he himself received the multiple nominations for Best Educational Supervisor award amongst hundreds of Consultants in East of England Deanery and won the 3rd Prize in 2025 .

Dr. Himadri Chakraborty is my daughter’s paediatric doctor, he always welcomes us in to the room ask how we’re doing & what’s the best course of action next, he always goes into great detail with explanations & meditations my child may need. He makes sure to ask her the questions regarding her health & I usually assist further with things she can’t answer.

Dr Chakraborty is the first doctor that understood my daughter’s needs. Having a child with allergies can be stressful, his careful explanations and managing expectations is second to none. He’s responsive and no question is too silly, he takes time to ensure we understand what next steps should be for our girl. We truly appreciate him.

Dr chakraborty has been apart of my son medical care from a baby I always find him so understanding and always helps me understand things. Always answers my questions and is very helpful and patient. I find it comforting that due to him understanding my sons needs and challenges this really help my son and myself when it comes to appointments and talking about upcoming medical procedures and plans. I feel he always listens and takes on board what I say. I really feel my son wouldn’t have come on leaps and bounds if it wasn’t for Dr Chakrabortys guidance and help and helping me navigate through my sons early years of needs.
Long awaited appointment that didn’t disappoint. Dr Chakraborty was clear and thorough. He was excellent at explaining what was going on for our child what needed to happen to improve his outcomes and clear about the risks if the treatment plan failed. He listened and was understanding, he provided reassurance and empathy about previous experiences and worries we had. He was great at trying to engage our son and didn’t get flustered when he did not enjoy examinations as he can be a tricky patient not wanting to be touched due to his Autism.
Dr Chakraborty gave us very clear and understandable reasons for my daughter’s symptoms. We were very happy with his manner and professionalism. We left feeling reassured and with the knowledge we felt we needed.
