Mr Hide Yamamoto is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Lead for Urological Cancer at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust. He specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and bothersome urinary symptoms caused by enlarged prostate (benign prostatic hyperplasia or BPH). He offers a personalised approach to every patient tailored to their unique needs.
For men with possible prostate cancer he would focus on achieving a safe, fast and accurate diagnosis through the use of multiparametric MRI and MRI-guided transperineal biopsies.
For men needing cancer treatment he carries out nerve-sparing robotic prostate cancer surgery (DaVinci) with functional outcomes aligning with best published results.
He also specialises in the management of BPH including laser BPH surgery (HoLEP) with very low complication rates.
Mr Yamamoto gained his primary medical qualification at Cambridge University. Subsequently he went on to gain his PhD in prostate cancer with UCL supported by a British Urological Foundation Scholarship.
He is a pioneer of transperineal prostate biopsies performed under local anaesthetic and was one of the first in the UK to adopt the new approach. He has personally performed more than 1000 transperineal prostate biopsies and trains other urologists at national courses.
He is active in prostate cancer research as a Principal Investigator for the TRANSLATE study which investigates the best method for diagnosing prostate cancer. He is recognised by his peers as a member of the Editorial Board for BJU International.
Mr Yamamoto sees his private patients at various hospitals in Kent, including Nuffield Tunbridge Wells, Spire Tunbridge Wells, and GenesisCare Maidstone.
'My ethos is to offer early & accurate assessment for every patient and achieve the best possible outcome. This may involve timely treatment but in many cases reassurance is all that is required. I also consider patients' experience of their care to be as important as their outcome.'

I had seen Mr Yamamoto a few times in the past and finally after his advice we decided that it was time to do the operation . Fordcombe Hospital Wells Health service was very good from beginning to end .The HOLeP operation went well ,he and his Staff were very kind and caring throughout the whole process with great explanations preop for The HOLeP procedure .The operation was successful due to his skills and experience .The recovery was overwhelming as the healing took 2-3 weeks . Thank you for kindness and great care your team provided.
After receiving Mr Yamamoto’s advice during my initial consultation I felt reassured that the HoLEP surgery he could offer me was the right way to go. His thorough, professional approach gave me every confidence whilst I was in his care. The surgery went as planned and recovery afterwards went well - I was able to return to Parkrun after 5 weeks! I now have a much better quality of life as a result of the surgery and am thankful to Mr Yamamoto and all the excellent staff at the Nuffield Hospital Tunbridge Wells who contributed to my care.
Mr Yamamoto had the good news that the matter I was seeing him for needed no further tests or treatment. He explained this very clearly and showed me the CT scan results on which he based his conclusions. So for both of us it was a pleasant and easy consultation. But in the past, when the matter could have been more serious, he was also very clear and supportive in his approach, explaining the options and giving me clear advice. Thank you.
Mr Yamamoto has been both thoroughly professional and engaging throughout my time under his care. I have found him to be a very capable communicator and a skilled surgeon. I unreservedly recommend his services to those who may be unfortunate enough to have need of them.
My treatment experience under Mr Yamamoto has been excellent. He is professional, personable and took care to explain everything in non-medical terms. the whole process from the initial consultation through tests and procedure to discharge was very very efficient and well managed.
Excellent experience with Mr Yamamoto. Reassuring manner and honest. Clearly explained what I should expect with both best and worst outcomes mentioned
I was fortunate to have been operated on (RALP) and have seem Mr Yamamoto privately twice now. He is very professional and caring in his approach. I feel £165 for a 5-minute consultation is very expensive but as I wasn’t getting the service I need from the NHS I feel it was value for money.
I could not have asked for a better Consultant than Mr Yamamoto. He inspired confidence throughout across various meetings and has looked after me with great care over a period of the 6 months or so, and with a gentle, caring but very clear manner. I would absolutely, thoroughly recommend him!
Very diligent, strong listening skills, empathetic, and obviously excellent medical professionalism.
