Mr Hide Yamamoto is a Consultant Urologicist and Robotic Surgeon with a specialist focus on the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). He has particular expertise in the accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer using advanced imaging, including MRI, alongside targeted and systematic biopsy techniques. His NHS work is based at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where he serves as Clinical Lead for Urological Cancer and chairs the Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) meetings.
His surgical practice includes minimally invasive prostate cancer surgery, notably robotic-assisted (Da Vinci) prostatectomy, as well as modern surgical treatments for BPH, including HoLEP and prostate artery embolisation (PAE). Mr Yamamoto is committed to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care, tailored to each individual’s condition and needs. In addition to his specialist work, he manages a broad range of general urological conditions, including urinary tract infections, bothersome urinary symptoms, and selected paediatric urology cases where appropriate.
Mr Yamamoto qualified in medicine from the University of Cambridge and went on to complete a PhD in prostate cancer at University College London (UCL), supported by a British Urological Foundation Scholarship.
He has been an early adopter of the transperineal prostate biopsy technique and was among the first clinicians in the UK to introduce this approach into routine clinical practice. He also contributed to a national study demonstrating that this technique improves cancer detection compared with conventional biopsy methods, helping to shape modern standards of care.
He regularly teaches and trains urologists at national and regional courses, serving as faculty and course director. He remains active in prostate cancer research and acts as a peer reviewer for leading urology journals, including BJU International. He has also contributed as an Expert Committee Member for guideline development with the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
Mr Yamamoto sees private patients at hospitals across Kent, including Nuffield Health Tunbridge Wells Hospital, Fordcombe Hospital, Wells Health, and GenesisCare Maidstone.

No experience that involves surgery is pleasant. You are in the hands of the surgeon and the medical team. i can say though that I felt 'safe' with both of those elements. Mr Yamamoto was precise about the entire procedure as well as being very personable and pleasant. The medical care team were excellent. so really thank you to all that were involved.

Kind sensitive informative reassuring and fills you with confidence. These are some of the many descriptions I would use. Many thanks
The robotic surgery, under the control of a highly skilled surgeon, and subsequent recovery period, have been remarkable. Minimally invasive, resulting in very limited discomfort, followed by speedy healing and recovery. Importantly, both physically and psychologically, the procedure removed all the Cancer, and I had a sense of normality as soon as the Catheter was removed. I didn't imagine that the whole process would have gone so smoothly, with each stage supported by an excellent team of professionals.
Mr Yamamoto is friendly and efficient and clearly communicates the situation and any options, keeping me well informed.
