“Excellent, Mr Yamamoto’s approach , manner and experience were a huge help at a very difficult time . The time he took with me to explain matters and the clarity of those explanations again were invaluable. His calm yet very assured approach instilled confidence in me that my situation was treatable and that was invaluable in the early days after diagnosis.“

    About

Mr Hide Yamamoto is a Consultant Urological Surgeon specialising in the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer and benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH).  His surgical expertise lies in accurate diagnosis of prostate cancer through the use of MRI and biopsies, prostate cancer surgery (robotic/DaVinci), and BPH surgery (TURP/HoLEP).  He also regularly sees patients with general urological conditions such as urinary infections, troublesome urinary symptoms, or paediatric urological conditions.

He works as a Consultant Urologist at Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust and serves as the lead for urology cancer and MDMs (Multidisciplinary Team Meetings). He is also an Expert Committee Member for the diagnostics guidelines team at the National Institute for Health & Care Excellence (NICE).

Mr Yamamoto gained his primary medical qualification at Cambridge University.  Subsequently he went on to gain his PhD in prostate cancer with UCL supported by a British Urological Foundation Scholarship.

He is a pioneer of transperineal prostate biopsies performed under local anaesthetic and was one of the first in the UK to adopt the new approach. He has personally performed more than 1000 transperineal prostate biopsies and trains other urologists at national courses.

He is active in prostate cancer research as a Principal Investigator for the TRANSLATE study which investigates the best method for diagnosing prostate cancer. He reviews regularly for the peer-review journal (BJU International Journal).

Mr Yamamoto sees his private patients at various hospitals in Kent, including Nuffield Tunbridge Wells, Spire Tunbridge Wells, and GenesisCare Maidstone.

'My ethos is to offer early & accurate assessment for every patient and achieve the best possible outcome.  This may involve timely treatment but in many cases reassurance is all that is required.  I also consider patients’ experience of their care to be as important as their outcome.'

Mr Yamamoto put me at ease from the outset and, following a discussion about my situation, his recommended course of action was clearly explained. Every aspect of the consultation was handled in a very professional but friendly manner and I rated my overall experience very highly.

Mr Yamamoto has a calm, professional and reassuring manner. He is clearly very knowledgeable and ready to answer any questions in an informative and easy to understand manner. Mr Yamamoto put me at ease both before the operation (HoLep) and immediate afterwards. I can’t recommend him enough. It goes without saying that his technical skills are 100%. Recovery was quick for myself with no complications.

Succinct in explanation and description, Mr Yamamoto arranged tests, fed back results and set surgery dates all while I was fully informed. He explained all steps of procedure, risks, and outcomes. On the day he was most reassuring before surgery and after came in to confirm everything had gone well, expectations were good. At every step I understood from him exactly what was happening, and felt that I was in the care of an expert surgeon and consultant. I will have no hesitation in consulting him again if I need to.

Mr Yamamoto was very professional and understanding and took the time in simple words to explain what the procedure would involve and the possible outcome’s as well as answer all my questions. His superb ability as a surgeon meant that I am making good progress in recovery and can look forward to a bright future. Above all he has enormous empathy and even took the time to telephone my wife after the procedure to reassure her all was well. My wife found this extremely reassuring to hear from the surgeon directly which put her mind at rest and that of my children. Mr Yamamoto also called me during my recovery period to see how I was. This level of care and consideration I found truly humbling. Thank you Mr Yamamoto.
