Dr Helen Hatcher

Dr Helen Hatcher is a Consultant Medical Oncologist who specialises in the management and treatment of rare cancers, soft tissue and bone sarcomas, and gastrointestinal stromal tumours. As a Clinical Lead for teenage and young adult oncology, she provides comprehensive, empathetic care tailored to the distinct needs of adolescents and young adults facing complex oncological diagnoses. Her clinical practice focuses on delivering modern therapeutic strategies alongside supportive care to guide patients and their families reassuringly through every stage of treatment.

Dr Hatcher earned her medical degree at the University of Cambridge before pursuing specialist postgraduate training in medical oncology across renowned institutions in the United Kingdom and the United States. She subsequently completed a PhD investigating the genetics of tumour progression and secondary cancers, consolidating her expertise in translational research and precision medicine. She is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and maintains active memberships in prominent professional bodies, including national clinical research networks dedicated to sarcoma care.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Hatcher is actively involved in clinical research and serves as a Lead Investigator for multicentre national and international clinical trials. Her areas of clinical research interest include cancer genomics, whole genome sequencing, novel targeted pharmacological treatments for sarcomas, and the psychological impact of cancer diagnoses on young adults. Dr Hatcher remains dedicated to advancing oncological science and translating breakthrough research into effective, personalised care for her patients.
