Dr Guy MacGowan

Dr Guy MacGowan is an esteemed Consultant Cardiologist who specialises in advanced heart failure, heart transplantation, and mechanical circulatory support. Dedicated to delivering comprehensive, patient-centred cardiac care, he works closely with individuals facing complex cardiovascular challenges to evaluate their condition and craft tailored treatment strategies. His practice emphasises providing reassuring guidance and optimal medical management to support patients throughout every stage of their care journey.

His clinical interests encompass a wide spectrum of advanced heart conditions, including pulmonary hypertension, dilated and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and muscular dystrophy-associated cardiomyopathy. Dr MacGowan possesses extensive expertise in mechanical circulatory support, particularly the implementation and long-term clinical management of ventricular assist devices (VADs). He is also actively involved in research into lifestyle modifications, exercise interventions, and innovative diagnostic technologies designed to enhance heart function and improve long-term outcomes for patients with heart failure.

Dr MacGowan graduated with his medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1986. He subsequently undertook extensive specialist training in cardiology across Dublin and in the United States at Johns Hopkins University and the University of Pittsburgh. In addition to holding a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree, he is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI).
