Dr Gordon MacDonald

Dr Gordon MacDonald is a dedicated Consultant Rheumatologist who holds dual accreditation in Rheumatology and General Internal Medicine. Known for his supportive and patient-centred approach, Dr MacDonald takes time to thoroughly assess each individual's symptoms, daily priorities, and therapeutic goals. He focuses on delivering clear, reassuring guidance alongside tailored care plans to help patients effectively manage long-term joint, bone, and soft-tissue conditions.

In his clinical practice, Dr MacDonald manages a broad spectrum of inflammatory and non-inflammatory rheumatological disorders. His clinical interests encompass inflammatory joint diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis and psoriatic arthritis, as well as metabolic bone conditions including osteoporosis. He also specialises in the investigation and treatment of gout, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia rheumatica, giant cell arteritis, and systemic connective tissue diseases.

Dr MacDonald completed his undergraduate medical degree at the University of Cambridge, qualifying in 2002. He subsequently completed higher specialist training in Rheumatology in the North of Scotland Deanery. Demonstrating his commitment to medical excellence, he is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of Edinburgh. Dr MacDonald is also an active member of the British Society for Rheumatology and the Royal Osteoporosis Society.

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr MacDonald maintains a strong background in medical education. He holds roles in specialist postgraduate training and university lecturing, and has actively contributed to national examination boards for rheumatology credentials. His engagement in academic teaching ensures his clinical practice remains aligned with the latest evidence-based guidelines and advancements in rheumatology.
