Dr Frank McKenna (BA MD FRCP) has over 30 years' experience as a Consultant
Physician and Rheumatologist. He was appointed as Fellow of the Royal College
of Physicians in 1994 and has been an examiner for the MRCP PACES examination
since 2003. He has extensive experience in rheumatology and acute general medicine and led his rheumatology dept to be recognised by the BSR as offering ‘Outstanding Best Practice'. He has lengthy experience in all rheumatic diseases including all
inflammatory joint and connective tissue diseases, osteoarthritis, fibromyalgia
and osteoporosis . He has over 30 years' experience of research in clinical pharmacology and has over 150 publications including abstracts, original papers, book and book chapters. He has undertaken most clinical managerial posts in the NHS including latterly that of operational Medical Director. He has held several positions
with both Arthritis Research UK (formerly ARC) and the British Society for Rheumatology including treasurer of the BSR. He has had a lengthy involvement with NICE as the BSR expert for the appraisals of biologic drugs in rheumatoid arthritis, as
clinical lead for the most recent revision of the RA guideline, and as member
then Chair of the NICE appeal panel.
