Dr. Ernie Wong is a Consultant Respiratory Physician with a sub-specialty interest in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). He practises at St Mary's Hospital, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust. Dr. Wong is also an Honorary Clinical Senior at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
Dr. Wong completed a PhD in which he investigated the role of the airway microbiome in asthma exacerbation. He is actively involved in various research collaborations, such as exploring the use of an AI chatbot to optimise asthma control, studying the impact of air pollution on asthma, and researching the role of hormones in asthma.
In addition to his research work, Dr. Wong leads the asthma service at St Mary's Hospital and is the clinical lead for asthma. He also runs general respiratory clinics and participates in acute medical on-call duties, where he evaluates and treats a wide range of respiratory and medical conditions, including COVID and post-COVID cases.
Dr Wong completed his medical degree in 2006 at Imperial College London. He then underwent extensive training in respiratory and general medicine at prestigious medical centres in London, including the Royal Brompton Hospital, King's College Hospital, and St George's Hospital. He became a consultant at St Mary's Hospital in 2017.
He is a member of several esteemed medical organisations, including the Royal College of Physicians, the British Thoracic Society, the European Respiratory Society, and the General Medical Council. Dr. Wong's commitment to respiratory medicine and his research contributions make him a respected figure in the field, and he has also made appearances in national television documentaries like the BBC's "Your Body Uncovered."

Very clear and explained everything to me which made sense. Good to finally get an answer to a problem that I understood.

Dr Ernie Wong was extremely polite, kind, respectful and he conducted himself in a very professional manner at all times. Dr Wong also had a very friendly and approachable manner. He understood exactly what has been happening with my Mum’s historical lung condition and he was extremely thorough and he took great care to analyse all of the results of all of my Mum’s breathing tests and he had analysed her chest X-ray, and explained and summarised everything in such a thorough and easy to understand manner. We have complete confidence in Dr Wong and we finally know that my Mother’s lungs are in good hands. He was extremely kind to my Mum and he realised that my Mum is very hearing impaired and quite elderly and that he needed to explain things in a clear and easy to understand manner. We could not recommend him more. He is extremely knowledgeable and explained everything in such an easy to understand way that he made it so easy to take everything in. His manner is also very relaxed, which makes it so much easier for an older patient like my mum. We have complete confidence in Dr Wong and we could not recommend him more. He is a very experienced specialist indeed and it is rare to find such specialists working and treating patients in the NHS.

Thank you, Dr Wong, I really appreciate that you went through my history prior to meeting and were very kind in listening to my concerns. He was talking me through my symptoms and giving me a thorough explanation on what the next steps should be in a kind, charismatic and very concise manner.

I have never had anyone explain my asthma so brilliantly and in terms that I can understand. Dr Wong truly cares about his patients and I can see that and feel that . It’s the first time I feel my asthma is under control and this is purely down to Dr Wong .
