Dr Emma Simpson

Dr Emma Simpson is a dedicated Consultant Paediatric Intensivist who specialises in caring for critically ill children and young people. With a compassionate and family-focused approach, she provides expert care to young patients requiring advanced life support, intensive medical monitoring, and specialist cardiac care. Dr Simpson works closely alongside multidisciplinary healthcare teams to deliver holistic and reassuring support to families during critical periods of medical treatment.

Dr Simpson completed her undergraduate medical training at The University of Nottingham, qualifying in 1999. Following extensive specialist postgraduate training in children's healthcare, she achieved specialist registration in Paediatric Intensive Care Medicine in 2012. She is a professional member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, maintaining an active commitment to clinical research and postgraduate medical education.

Her clinical focus encompasses paediatric ventricular assist device therapy, paediatric cardiothoracic intensive care, and the stabilisation of acutely unwell children. Dr Simpson has a specific interest in pain management, sedation, withdrawal prevention, and delirium care for children recovering from complex cardiothoracic procedures. She is also deeply committed to involving parents and patients directly in care planning, as well as improving patient mobility and rehabilitation for children undergoing extended hospital stays.
