I am a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Laparoscopic General and Colorectal Surgery, with more than 25 years of postgraduate surgical experience. My NHS practice is based at Princess Royal University Hospital, part of King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where I provide both elective and emergency general and colorectal surgical care as a Consultant since 2016.
Alongside my NHS work, I see private patients at:
I graduated from the Medical School of Athens in 1999. In 2002, I successfully completed the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLE). After completing my Core Surgical Training in England, I became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (MRCS) in 2006. I subsequently undertook academic research at the University of Cambridge, where I was awarded a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Surgery.
My Higher Surgical Training was completed through the Eastern Deanery and London Deanery National Training Programmes. I became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 2014 and was awarded my Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in General Surgery in 2015.
I then undertook advanced subspecialty training at King's College Hospital, Medway Hospital, and Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals, with a focus on complex gastrointestinal and minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery. In 2015, I was awarded a Travelling Fellowship by the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland (ACPGBI) to train at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, gaining further experience in advanced oncological colorectal practice.
In 2016, I completed a Post-CCT Fellowship (RSO) at St Mark's Hospital, The National Bowel Hospital, where I further developed specialist expertise in colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, pelvic floor disorders, intestinal failure, and complex abdominal surgery.
I am JAG-accredited in diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. I hold a Master of Science (MSc) in Perioperative Care from Cardiff University and a Master of Surgery (MS) in Coloproctology from the University of East Anglia. After successfully passing the European Board of Coloproctology examinations in 2017, I was admitted as a Fellow of the Board (FEBS).
I have published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and surgical textbooks and regularly present my work at national and international conferences. I am also deeply committed to surgical education and currently serve as Training Faculty Lead and College Tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
My approach to care is patient-focused, evidence-based, and centred on clear communication. I take time to listen carefully, explain diagnoses and treatment options in an accessible way, and involve patients fully in shared decision-making. Wherever appropriate, I use minimally invasive (keyhole) techniques to support faster recovery and excellent long-term outcomes. Patient safety, continuity of care, and compassionate support are central to my practice.

Dr Ysilantis helped me to overcome a perianal abscess. Dr Ysilantis has been extremely knowledgeable and professional, with a very clear communication. Explained me very well all the steps I needed to take and the potential risks I was going to encounter.

Very good experience with doctor Ypsilantis for haemorrhoids treatment. From first consultation to the final one, he was very professional and provided all the relevant information and explanations.
