Miss Obi is warm, confident specialist who welcomes you in and explains what is happening clearly at every stage. She spends time listening to and answering your queries and concerns, and forms a connection with her patient which puts you at ease. So far, I have only had an initial consultation with her but I have no concerns about having her undertake my laser surgery. . The only less positive aspect of my visit was the length of time I had to wait to see her past my appointment time. I was seen by her nurse on arrival, and drops inserted in my eyes to dilate the pupils,, but then had a 45 minute wait before Miss Obi called me in. I accept that her laudable approach is to spend time with her patients, and that this led to my having to wait longer, but maybe this could be built in to appointment duration schedules rather better? After the drops had been put into my eyes, I was unable to focus on any written material, so the long wait seemed even longer, especially as I attended the clinic on my own. Otherwise, I was very satisfied with Miss Obi’s approach in every way.

Thank you so much for taking the time to share such thoughtful feedback. I am incredibly grateful for your kind words regarding my approach. Knowing that you felt welcomed, listened to, and at ease during our initial consultation means a great deal to me. Building a strong, trusting connection with my patients is my priority, and I am glad you feel confident as we prepare for your upcoming laser surgery. I also want to apologize for the delay you experienced. I completely understand and appreciate how a long wait feel. To help provide some context, each new consultant appointment in my clinic is allocated up to 30 minutes, which is preceded by a 10-to-15-minute assessment with our nursing team. However, because patient care is deeply personal and highly individualized, unexpected delays can unfortunately crop up. Some examples are: • Unanticipated Needs: We often cannot predict a patient’s specific clinical or emotional needs until they are actually in the consultation room with us. • A Gentler Pace: Many of our patients are elderly and some of them require a slower, unhurried pace during both their nurse assessment and their time with me. • Detailed Explanations: Some patients require much more time and detailed explanations to fully grasp the nature of their eye condition and proposed treatment. While I always strive to keep to our scheduled times, my guiding principle is to never send a patient away with crucial questions left unanswered. Balancing these deep clinical needs with a strict timetable is a constant challenge, and when these unpredictable factors arise, they are unfortunately out of my control. I want to thank you again for your patience and understanding on the day of your consultation, as well as for your constructive feedback. I look forward to seeing you again for your procedure and we will continue to ensure that you and all of our patients receive the absolute best care possible. Best wishes Miss Obi

I was very nervous about the prospect of the cataract operations I need and I am so glad that I chose Miss Obi as my consultant. She put me at ease from the moment I arrived for our initial consultation, taking time to explain everything thoroughly, going through every lens option available to me in detail and answering all of my questions. I now feel empowered to make an informed choice of lens to suit my requirements and am approaching the operation on my first eye with complete confidence in Miss Obi.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) in early triaging of referred patients with retinal disease – AI Solutions in Ophthalmic healthcare.

Ophthalmology has the highest number of outpatient appointments, and one of the longest treatment backlogs in the NHS, 7.5 million in 2021/22 alone (England). 158,258 new patients with sight-threatening blinding disease were waiting for an outpatient appointment in 2024 (Wales). We aimed to integrate and test a cloud-based AI framework to the referrals process, early in a patient pathway, available at a national scale, which interfaces into the NHS Wales national architecture.
