Dr Yusuf Patel

I have an extensive range of experience accumulated since graduation in 1985. This includes training both in General Internal Medicine and Rheumatology completed in South Africa and the UK. After graduating from WITS University as the top student, I trained in Internal Medicine at Coronation Hospital for 6 years before moving to the UK with an MRC scholarship to do Rheumatology research at the Royal Mineral Water Hospital in Bath. I defended my PhD at the University of Bath in 1998 before taking a post as Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Town (Groote Schuur Hospital). In 2001 I relocated to Hull Royal Infirmary as Consultant & Senior Lecturer in Medicine &Rheumatology in a new post with a view to establishing teaching of Rheumatology at the new Hull York Medical School (HYMS). I was elected Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians (London) in 2005

In addition to teaching medical students at HYMS I have been working as Consultant in General Medicine and Rheumatology at Hull Royal Infirmary, training junior doctors and nurses, as well as Leading Rheumatology Clinical trials after attracting funding to establish a Rheumatology Research team.

As a result of my extensive experience, I am able to listen to patients and examine clinically and with appropriate investigations in order to help arrive at an accurate assessment of the Rheumatological problem. Where I am not able to address or fix the problem, I can at least provide you with an explanation and ideas as to how you can progress.
