Dr Thomas Gilkes

Dr Thomas Gilkes, a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Medicine, conducts regular clinics at The London Orthopaedic Clinic at Mayo Clinic Healthcare. He has specialist expertise in Neuropathic Pain, Spine pain, CRPS, Osteoarthritis, Fibromyalgia/Myofascial Pain, and Musculoskeletal Pain of the hip, knee, and shoulder.

Dr Gilkes graduated from Dundee University with an MBChB qualification in the year 2000. His journey led him through anaesthetic training at Barts and The London School of Anaesthesia, where he cultivated an interest in Pain Medicine. He later pursued a fellowship in Pain Medicine at St Mary’s Hospital and became a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Royal College of Anaesthetists (FFPMRCA) before assuming a consultant role at Homerton University Hospital and St Bartholomew’s Hospital.

Dr Gilkes manages diverse painful conditions, including neuropathic pain, post-surgical pain, spinal pain, and Complex Regional Pain Syndrome. He utilises both pharmacological and interventional therapies, including: facet joint/medial branch blocks, epidural injections, nerve blocks, and appropriate sympathetic blocks. Additionally, he excels in performing radiofrequency neuromodulation techniques.

Known by his patients for his approachability and dedication to patient care, Dr Gilkes prioritises listening and responding to his patients' concerns. He collaborates with multidisciplinary teams at The London Orthopaedic Clinic.
