Professor Ross Hunter is a consultant cardiologist and electrophysiologist. He has extensive clinical experience, particularly in heart arrhythmias, having been an arrhythmia specialist for over 15 years. He is the Clinical Director of Arrhythmia Services at The Barts Heart Centre, the largest cardiac centre in the UK and one of the largest in the world. He leads a team of 26 excellent arrhythmia and devices consultants in providing 24/7 care for complex cases from around the UK. He has also held previous roles at Barts including Director of Arrhythmia Research and Lead for Atrial Fibrillation services. The Barts arrhythmia unit has been recently commended in the houses of parliament for innovations in arrhythmia care and has been given a number of awards in recognition of excellence. Professor Hunter is an nationally elected council member of the British Heart Rhythm Society and is their Research Lead, helping to direct arrhythmia research nationally.
Prof Hunter performs catheter ablations for all arrhythmias and performs approximately 200 complex catheter ablations per year, making him a high volume electrophysiologist. He also implants, revises and extracts the full range of pacemakers including biventricular pacemakers, ICDs, sub-cutaneous ICDs and leadless pacemakers. He is at the forefront of always looking for the latest advances in the specialty and particularly in the fields of ablation and pacing including robotic technology, 3D mapping systems, cryoballoons. He now offers pulsed field ablation (PFA). He has high success rates and very low complication rates and a track record for helping patients with difficult problems, such as complex repeat procedures for those with previously failed ablation, patients with structural heart disease or other high-risk cases.
