Dr Mehta is a Consultant in Sport and Exercise Medicine and
the Lead Women's Performance Doctor at the Football Association, working as the
Team Doctor for the England Women's Football team. He qualified in 2003 from
Kings College London and initially trained and worked in General Practice. He
completed a Masters in Sport and Exercise Medicine (Distinction) and
subsequently went on to complete the 4 year specialist training in SEM on the
prestigious London rotation.
Dr Mehta has extensive experience in treating recreational and elite athletes from a variety of sports. These include Gymnasts, Dancers, tennis players, Rugby Players, Footballers of all levels and he was a Sports Medicine Doctor at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. One of Dr Mehta's main interest is football medicine. He has attended three world cups (FIFA
Women's World Cups- France 2019 and Canada 2015 and FIFA Men's U20 World Cup, Colombia 2011). He was also the team doctor during Watford FC's promotion to the Premier league in
2015.
Dr. Mehta has a special interest in the conservative management of lower limb sport and musculoskeletal injuries, groin pain, tendon problems, osteoarthritis and female athlete health. He takes pride in undertaking a detailed clinical assessment and uses a holistic approach in managing any issues. He works with all patients to understand and treat the route cause of any problems to help in the short term but also reduce any recurrences in the long term. He utilises diagnostic mucsuloskeletal ultrasound in clinic to supplement his assessments. Dr Mehta offers a range of treatment methods including ultrasound-guided injection treatments shockwave therapy for sports injuries and other painful musculoskeletal conditions.
Dr Mehta has published and presented extensively in the field of sport and exercise medicine. He has authored several book chapters and co-developed The FA guidelines on Hepatitis and HIV in professional football.
