Dr Richard Campbell

Dr Richard Campbell is a Consultant Rheumatologist with over 15 years' specialist experience in rheumatology. He sees private patients at Circle Sloane Hospital in Beckenham and Circle Chelsfield Park Hospital in Orpington, serving patients from Bromley, Beckenham, Orpington, South East London and Kent.

He specialises in the assessment and treatment of arthritis, joint and musculoskeletal symptoms, and autoimmune rheumatic diseases. He sees patients with both established rheumatological conditions and those who have joint pain, stiffness, swelling or other symptoms but do not yet have a clear diagnosis.

Dr Campbell's NHS practice is at King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he has worked as a Consultant Rheumatologist since 2013. He has previously been Clinical Lead for Rheumatology at the King's Bromley sites and has more than 10 years' experience working within the specialist lupus and connective tissue disease service at King's.

His clinical interests include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, gout, osteoarthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica and giant cell arteritis, lupus, Sjögren's syndrome and other connective tissue diseases, osteoporosis and general diagnostic rheumatology. He also assesses common joint and musculoskeletal problems, including knee, shoulder, hand and wrist symptoms, and performs joint and soft-tissue injections where appropriate.

Dr Campbell has published research in rheumatoid arthritis, fatigue in autoimmune rheumatic disease and inflammatory muscle disease and has presented his work nationally and internationally. He is involved in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education and is a member of the South Thames regional training faculty for rheumatology specialist registrars.

His approach is to establish the likely cause of a patient's symptoms and explain the diagnosis and treatment options clearly. Where appropriate, investigations such as blood tests and imaging can be arranged as part of the assessment.
