Dr Kelly trained and graduated in medicine and surgery at The London Hospital Medical College at the University of London. He undertook higher specialist training in Endocrinology, Diabetes and General Internal Medicine at St Bartholomew's and The Royal London Hospitals before taking up Consultant posts at Whipps Cross and Southend Hospitals. Latterly he has been Clinical Director of Acute Medicine at King's College Hospital and is now the Clinical and Academic co-Lead for Medicine and Integrated Care at King's Health Partners. At King's he practices in General and Acute Medicine and maintains an interest in Diabetes, Metabolism and Endocrinology.
He undertook research in Endocrinology at St Bartholomew's Hospital investigating mechanisms of tumour growth in the bowel of patients with acromegaly presenting his thesis for an MD at University of London.
He is Chairman of The London Regional Transfusion Committee and maintains an interest in making transfusion of blood products safer, the management of anaemia including the pre- and post-operative and pre and post-pregnancy optimisation and maintenance of circulatory health.
He enjoys literature and political history and biography, plays chess, tennis, golf, and enjoys skiing and road cycling.
