About Dr Nick Jenkins

Dr Jenkins was appointed to his current post as a Consultant Interventional Cardiologist at the Sunderland Royal Hospital in 2014 and has a busy NHS practice in all areas of general and interventional cardiology. He performs a large volume of complex procedures including coronary angiography, coronary angioplasty/stenting (PCI), transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography and interventions for structural heart disease.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Jenkins has keen research interests in both clinical trials and the investigation of the underlying mechanisms of heart attacks. He was awarded his postgraduate research degree in 2010 from the University of Bristol and has continued to initiate and maintain his research interests.

Dr Jenkins lives locally with his young family and dogs. He is a keen sportsman and passionate rugby fan who has previously been the club doctor for Bristol RFC. In addition he loves walking and running along the beautiful coastline of the North East.

Qualifications

Dr Jenkins qualified from medical school in London. Following his junior doctor years in London he spent two years training in general and interventional cardiology at Papworth hospital, Cambridge. Following this he spent further periods of training in Southampton and Bristol and finally spent a year overseas in Melbourne, Australia where he completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology at the world renowned Monash Heart Centre.
