About Dr Nicholas Silver

Dr Nicholas Silver is a Consultant Neurologist at The Walton Centre in Liverpool. 

He is a general neurologist with subspecialist interest in headache.

He provides a holistic approach to neurology

He started and has developed one of the largest UK services at the Walton Centre and participated in research into many of the advanced therapies now available. 

He is particularly interested in managing complex and refractory headache disorders and recognising and managing non-headache symptoms of headache disorders. He is very experienced in advanced therapies and has a particular interest in non drug management of headache disorders and holistic management options.

He has particular interests in migraine, medication overuse headache, hemicrania continua, cluster headache, other trigeminal autonomic cephalgias and facial pain. 

In addition, both within the NHS and privately, Dr Silver has clinical interests in:

neurological sleep disorders

refractory restless legs syndrome

vertigo and dizziness

fatigue and widepsread pain 

unexplained neurological symptoms

parkinsons disease (has previously run a parkinsons clinic)

epilepsy (currently has a transitional epilepsy service for young patients moving to adult neurology services

multiple sclerosis (PhD in MS and neurological inflammatory disorders

neurological symptom control

Outside of his clinical roles, Dr Silver is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians. He chaired the inaugural clinical governancee committee of the Association of British Neurologists. He is a council member of the British Association for the Study of Headache. He has been the Royal College of Physicians regional advisor in neurology. He currently is a Trustee of both OUCH UK and The Brain Charity. He maintains a significant role in international research studies into management of headache disorders and has been a UK Chief Investigator for 5 international studies.
