About Dr Mark Fullard

I graduated from the University of Leicester in 1995 going on to complete my specialist training programmes in Gastroenterology and General Internal Medicine through the South East Thames training rotation. I completed my specialist training in 2007.

I have been a consultant at West Herts since 2008.

My research into gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and Barrett's oesophagus led to me being awarded a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of London. Whilst I see patients across the whole range of GI disorders, my special area of interest is in oesophageal disorders including Barrett's oesophagus and the treatment of early cancers in the upper GI tract. I and lead the tertiary referral service for Radiofrequency ablation and endoscopic resection at West Herts Hospitals. I also have an interest in gastro-oesophageal reflux disease and perform oesophageal physiology testing where indicated.

My practice involves seeing patients with a broad range of GI conditions and symptoms including diarrhoea ,abdominal pain, constipation, weight loss as well as reflux and heartburn. I have close links with very experienced local surgeons as well as specialised surgeons and gastroenterologists in London should patients need referring for more complex procedures or specialist opinions.

I have previously been training lead and am currently the Clincial Director of the Gastroenterology department at West Herts. I have served on the oesophageal section of the British Society of Gastroenterology for seven years and am now chair of this section.

I am the Lead Clincian for the Endoscopy department at Spire Harpenden Hospital.
