About Dr Ian Comaish

Mr. Ian Comaish is a highly experienced Consultant Ophthalmologist renowned for his expertise in various aspects of ophthalmic surgery, including small incision phacoemulsification cataract surgery, eyelid surgery, and the treatment of external eye diseases. His ophthalmic career spans thirty years, during which he has practised in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand.

Ian's academic journey began at Cambridge University, where he pursued pre-clinical medicine and also obtained a degree in the History of Art. He later completed his medical degree at Oxford University in 1991. He specialised in ophthalmology in 1994 at The Royal United Hospital in Bath, followed by training at prestigious institutions such as St Thomas’s Hospital in London, the Royal Eye Infirmary in Plymouth, and the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham. He further honed his skills through fellowships in oculoplastic surgery at Queens Medical Centre and corneal surgery in Sydney, Australia, focusing on refractive surgery and corneal transplantation.

Throughout his career, Mr. Comaish has performed many successful cataract surgeries, emphasising the profound impact improved vision can have on quality of life and maintaining an active lifestyle. His clinical interests also include the use of premium intraocular lenses and surgical procedures for eyelid conditions such as ectropion, entropion, ptosis, and blepharoplasty, as well as pterygium surgery.

For over a decade, Mr. Comaish has served patients at Tetbury Hospital, where he continues to provide comprehensive ophthalmic care, drawing on his extensive expertise in cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and oculoplastic procedures.
