Dr Angelo Dawson is a Consultant Neurologist with a specialist focus on functional neurological disorders (FND), general neurology, and neurorehabilitation, alongside a strong academic background in neurological recovery and service development.
He trained at the Guy’s, King’s and St Thomas’ School of Medicine and completed his specialist neurology training on the Northwest London Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust rotation, finishing in 2023. He currently works as a consultant at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, where he runs a large general neurology outpatient service and provides inpatient neurology consultation across the hospital. In addition, he works at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust within the regional specialist Functional Neurological Disorder service (FNDExSEL), where he contributes to specialist assessments, multidisciplinary team meetings, and regional education for patients with newly diagnosed FND.
His clinical expertise spans general neurology with a particular specialist interest in functional neurological disorders, including functional (dissociative) seizures, chronic pain, fatigue syndromes, and complex neurological symptom presentations. He also has extensive experience in neurorehabilitation, including both acute and long-term rehabilitation of patients with neurological disability such as stroke, brain injury, and spinal cord injury. Dr Dawson takes time to listen, he does assume things or takeover insisting on his own way I found his approach refreshing - He was kind , approachable , he listened & I felt he tried his best to resolve my every query or doubt I met him three times & I have to say each time I left feeling heard cared for & satisfied that he looked after me & had my best interests at heart - his staff & team are prompt to respond & give solutions as well. I have learnt a lot from my interactions with him & thank him & his team for making me feel valued heard & cared for - his professionalism , his best side manner & his communication style is to be applauded I am just grateful that he was the clinician who took care of me. & I pray him very well in the future.. DR Dawson was the kindest doctor ive ever had an appointment with first of all he explained things so well and I genuinely felt like he completely understood what I was going through and the effect migranes have on daily life it was lovely to felt listened to and have a doctor who immediately wanted to help I came away feeling like im a massive step forward to getting things sorted :)
Dr Dawson, explained the current medical situation explicitly in both medical and everyday language, providing very clear examples for me. He was attentive, he listened empathetically and made a very clear diagnosis and treatment plan moving forward. He signposted me to immediate online websites for my condition and advised on proactive approaches to take to better understand and control my condition. He is one of the most caring and compassionate doctors i have ever seen.
