Dr Andrew Douds qualified at St Thomas' Hospital in London in 1986. Whilst working at various London hospitals he obtained his MRCP and began his Gastroenterology Specialist Training as a registrar at St Georges Hospital in London in 1991. It was here that he also completed research and obtained his MD higher degree. In the Birmingham teaching hospitals Dr Douds completed his training before progressing to become a Consultant at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kings Lynn in 1998. In November 2019 he was appointed as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Norfolk and Norwich University NHS Foundation Trust where he is currently practicising. He is also an honorary senior lecturer at the University of East Anglia.
Dr Douds' clinical practice is patient centred. He has extensive experience in treating a wide range of Gastroenterological (gut) and hepatological (liver) disorders. His expertise lies in Endoscopy and Colonoscopy, which Dr Douds practices. He specialises in Gastroenterology, Hepatology, General Internal Medicine, Endoscopy, Colonoscopy, Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease. He has excellent key performance indicators relating to his endoscopic practice and patient feedback. Testimony to his excellent clinical practice are the number of referrals for secondary and tertiary opinions and referrals of colleagues' relatives.
Dr Douds is a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London,. He is an immediate past Censor of the Royal College of Physicians (a senior role held by William Harvey) and previous Regional Adviser for the Eastern region. He is a member of the British Society of Gastroenterology and is currently the chair of the Clinical Services and Standards Committee having previously served as the BSG quality improvement and guidelines lead.
