I am a senior Consultant Child & Adolescent Psychiatrist & Developmental neuropsychiatrist, a writer, multi award winning film-director, a mindful-compassionate leader, Ted X speaker and educator. I am a Fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and also The Royal Society of Medicine.
I am currently working as the Associate Clinical Director of CAMHS in North London Foundation Trust as well as involved private practise. I am also the Lead Clinician and Consultant at The Beacon Centre, a General Adolescent Specialist Unit in North London. I am also one of the the Well Being Champion of the Royal College of Psychiatrists and Co-Lead London Division (Exec Committee member).
As a Consultant over 20 years of experience in NHS, I have l developed expertise in Inpatient Services ( GAU, PICU, Low Secure and Medium Secure Units) as well as in Neuro-developmental psychiatry as special interest. I have led highly specialist Neuro-developmental community CAMHS and Tier 4 Inpatient teams, including National Tier 4 CAMHS LD Forensic service.
I was an Honorary Senior Lecturer at The Queen Mary University of London and over the years, I have supervised and trained a variety of senior trainees and professionals, undergraduate and postgraduate medical students from Oxford, Cambridge and UCL. I have mentored and supervised professionals and trainees from other disciplines. I currently teach in the MA Course (Child Mental health and Transpersonal Psychology) in Northampton University (CCCP).
I lecture extensively and globally and facilitate workshops in a broad range of areas including Mental health, Wellbeing & Resilience, Personal mastery, Mindfulness and Mindful Compassionate Leadership incorporating interdisciplinary ideas and practices. I have facilitated workshops with international organisations like Greenpeace International, Erasmus European Project, Hawkwood College, and in universities like University of Michigan, Brunel University, IIT (KgP), University of Calcutta, University of Salamanca, University of Pittsburg amongst many others.
I have received several awards including Mayor of London’s award for Leadership ( King's fund Millennium Commission award), Blaker Fund award and was a finalist in Carissa Evan’s Award for Innovation in mental health. I have recently received the Spirituality SIG Essay Prize ( 2022) from Royal College on the Title : Psychiatrist as a Scientist, Artist and Mystic, in practice and Leadership.
My debut Feature film Bridge(multi-international festival award winner) continues to be invited globally to create dialogues on suicide and mental health issues, the centrality of compassion and kindness in healthcare. My documentary Film WWW- Working with Worries ( 2001) has helped creating awareness on Autism nationwide in the UK. I also created and directed a musical Maya, premiered at the Bloomsbury Theatre in 2003. This was a part of the Royal College of Psychiatrists’ ' Changing Mind' Campaign. My play ‘Homapakhi’ has run for several years in India, raising awareness on mental health issues.
My special area of interest is Well Being at Work, Health Humanities, Mindfulness, Self Compassion and Mindful Leadership.
I have also served as Board members in several International organisations and Charities, eg Scientific & Medical Network( scimednet.org), Child in Need Institute-Uk; a professional affiliate of Galileo Commission (galileocommission.org) and a Honorary member of The Rotary International ( District 3291).
