Dr Fitchet graduated with honours from the University of Southampton in 1988.
Following a short service commission in the Royal Navy he joined the Central Manchester Cardiology Specialist Registrar training programme. He spent the majority of this time at the Manchester Royal Infirmary and also worked at Stepping Hill Hospital, Blackpool Victoria Hospital and Rochdale Infirmary. A two year period of research with Dr Adam Fitzpatrick at Manchester Royal Infirmary. This focused on autonomic function in the setting of cardiac arrhythmias and misdiagnosis of epilepsy with a particular emphasis on the misdiagnosis of syncope as epilepsy. He has published papers on the role of tilt testing in the investigation of vasovagal syncope and comprehensive cardiac rehabilitation for patients with implantable defibrillators.
He is trained in general cardiology and can investigate and manage the full range of cardiac conditions. He has a specialist interest in herat rhythm disturbances, blackouts (syncope) and implantable cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators.
