Dr Kamal Ahmed

Dr Kamal Ahmed is a Consultant Renal Physician and since 2009, has held the role of Medical Director of the London Bridge Hospital, progressing the clinical governance structure and setting up the hospital Board. He has in the last 10 years supported the HCA UK Division sitting on various committees and since 2012, taken on the role of Medical Appraisal Lead for HCA UK. Since November 2017 he has, taken on the role of the Divisional Medical Director for Governance at HCA UK, providing a key support role for the Chief Medical Officer and the Responsible Officer.

Dr Ahmed joined the London Bridge Hospital as a Consultant Renal Physician in 1986, providing leadership and establishing the renal unit with a multidisciplinary team renowned for the management of end stage renal failure with dialysis and transplantation. In 1999, in addition to his clinical role, he was appointed as Director of Clinical Standards at London Bridge Hospital.

Dr Ahmed was fully trained in all aspects of renal medicine including dialysis and transplantation at the Royal Free Hospital London. In the 80's, he developed a special interest in renal vascular disease, intensive care nephrology and the management of high-risk renal transplant patients. In the early part of his career, he was heavily involved in quality initiatives, European dialysis and transplantation audits, and carried out original research in renal metabolic bone disorders leading to multiple original publications.
