Dr Deborah Ferguson

Dr Deborah Ferguson is a Consultant Paediatric Neurosurgeon who provides specialised neurosurgical care for infants, children, and young people. Her practice encompasses a broad spectrum of general and complex paediatric neurosurgical conditions, delivering compassionate and reassuring care to young patients and their families. Alongside her surgical practice, Dr Ferguson is dedicated to enhancing clinical care pathways and patient outcomes through integrated, multidisciplinary care models.

Dr Ferguson completed her medical degree (MBChB) before undertaking comprehensive adult and paediatric neurosurgical training within the Scottish Deanery. She achieved Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) and Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Surgical Neurology (FRCS(SN)). To further refine her sub-specialist skills, she completed a dedicated fellowship in paediatric neurosurgery. She maintains an active role in professional leadership and quality standards, serving as a Quality Assurance Assessor for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

With particular expertise in sub-specialist paediatric fields, Dr Ferguson has key clinical interests in complex hydrocephalus, antenatal neurosurgical counselling, and spinal dysraphism. She played a pivotal role in establishing a multidisciplinary spina bifida clinic to ensure holistic care for children with complex spinal conditions. In addition to her clinical focus, Dr Ferguson is deeply committed to medical education and health service development, having served as a Training Programme Director, Associate Medical Director, Clinical Lead in Transformation, and an active Educational Supervisor and Clinical Supervisor for surgical trainees.
