Dr Cheryl Hemingway is an accomplished Consultant Paediatric Neurologist who specialises in treating children and young people with complex neurological conditions. Her clinical focus encompasses a broad range of paediatric neurological disorders, with particular expertise in rare neuroinflammatory conditions, inherited white matter disorders, and demyelinating diseases. In her clinical practice, Dr Hemingway provides expert management for children experiencing multiple sclerosis, acute disseminated encephalomyelitis, myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody-associated disease (MOGAD), and autoimmune encephalitis. She is also deeply involved in managing antibody-mediated neurological disorders, inherited white matter diseases, and general paediatric neurological conditions. By integrating advanced diagnostic techniques with tailored treatment strategies, Dr Hemingway ensures that each child receives comprehensive, patient-centred care aimed at improving neurological outcomes and overall quality of life.
Dr Hemingway completed her initial medical degree (MBChB) at the University of Cape Town before undertaking extensive specialist training in paediatric neurology across top medical and academic centres in South Africa, the United States, and the United Kingdom. She earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) from Imperial College London, where her doctoral research investigated host immune responses to brain inflammation and infection. Dr Hemingway is a Fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (FRCPCH) and a Fellow of the College of Paediatricians of South Africa (FCPaed). In addition to her clinical work, she serves as an Honorary Clinical Lecturer, contributing to medical education and ongoing research as an active member of both the British Paediatric Neurology Association and the International Paediatric MS Study Group.
