About Dr Charles Butcher
Dr Charles Butcher is a Consultant Cardiologist specialising in cardiac rhythm management, including device implantation. He is currently the Arrhythmia Lead at Dorset County Hospital, where he runs specialist clinics, and also performs ablation procedures at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.
After graduating from the Royal Free and University College London Medical School, Dr Butcher undertook his general cardiology training and electrophysiology fellowship at London teaching hospitals, including Harefield Hospital, St Bartholomew's Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital. He was awarded a PhD at Imperial College London for his thesis on optimising cardiac resynchronisation therapy pacemakers for patients with heart failure. His work has been presented at national and international conferences and subsequently published in well-respected journals.
His clinical interests include atrial fibrillation, atrial flutter, supraventricular and atrial tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia and ectopy, inherited arrhythmias, heart failure, hypertension, cardiomyopathy and valve disease. Dr Butcher also implants pacemakers, internal cardioverter defibrillators and cardiac resynchronisation therapy devices.
