About Dr Bashir Alaour

Dr Bashir Alaour is a highly accomplished Consultant Cardiologist in London and Hampshire.  His career is characterized by a remarkable blend of clinical expertise and academic research.

His clinical practice primarily focuses on Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart Valve Interventions, a highly specialized area of cardiology that involves minimally invasive procedures to address various heart valve diseases, offering state-of-the-art care to patients with complex heart conditions.

A cornerstone of his training was the prestigious British Cardiac Intervention Society (BCIS) International Fellowship at Bern University Hospital in Switzerland, one of the world's foremost centres for structural heart interventions, where he trained in advanced structural heart interventions including transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), transcatheter mitral valve repair, and transcatheter tricuspid valve repair. Following this fellowship, he established and leads a Structural Heart Valve Intervention service at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working in collaboration with University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals.

He is also trained in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for ischaemic heart disease and manages a broad range of cardiovascular conditions within interventional cardiology practice.

Dr Alaour completed a PhD at King’s College London, supported by a British Heart Foundation Clinical Research Training Fellowship. His research focused on cardiac biomarkers, including cardiac myosin-binding protein C, for the diagnosis of myocardial injury. He has conducted research on the outcomes of transcatheter valve interventions and has published in high impact peer-reviewed cardiology journals

His work includes involvement in clinical research collaborations at national and international level, with focus areas including structural heart disease, interventional cardiology outcomes, and cardiovascular diagnostics.

Dr Alaour explained all aspects of the procedure making me 100% confident that the replacement of the Aorta Valve was the favourable option without the risk of open heart surgery. He further advised that an annual review would be required to ensure my longevity and that the ongoing status of the valve is satisfactory.
