My Journey of Hope and Gratitude As a survivor of childhood poliomyelitis, which affected my left foot and mobility, my journey towards surgery has not been without challenges. I experienced disappointment when two hospitals in my region cancelled my scheduled operations because of concerns about their ability to support my postoperative care and rehabilitation. Determined not to give up hope, I decided to return to Stanmore, where I had previously undergone surgery in 2014. During my search for a suitable consultant, I came across Mr Babar Kayani. At my initial consultation, he listened attentively to my concerns and reassured me that he did not foresee any significant difficulties with my postoperative mobility. His confidence, professionalism and reassuring approach restored my hope. Following a referral from my GP, I was offered a date for surgery. I liased with his secretary who kept me updated. Medical team exuded confidence and were very reassuring, competent and professional. Explained procedures and great bedside manner allowing me to ask questions or seek any clarification. I was seen by Mr Kayani in his clinic. Prior to my visit I was advised that a x-ray appointment had been arranged prior to my consultation. After my x-ray I returned to out patients and was seen by Mr Kayani. Although my appointment was slightly late I couldn't fault any of the staff in providing such a first class experience.

So for context, I am a former member of HM Armed forces and an above knee amputee. I was referred to Mr Kayani by my prosthetic consultant as I needed a total hip replacement as I was bone on bone, several other surgeons had been very reluctant to treat me due to my amputation. Mr Kayani had no such reservations and as a result I had the surgery at RNOH Stanmore and am now out of the constant pain I was in and can walk again on my prosthesis.

I'm laying here in my hospital bed 5 days post surgery fealing the bes I have felt in 22 years. My journey started with a hip resurface at the age of 34 I was youn in great shape but I had an issue with my hip locking and pain to an arthritic node. Had the surgery at ashford Middlesex 6 months later I had an issue lots of pain had it investigated at Southampton general they knew something was wrong, just not what was wrong 18 months later they found the hip cup was fitted wrong and was 16 degrees out. The plan was to remove the hip cup. But during surgery it was seen to have done that much damage to the head my femur the desision was made to leave the cup and give me a thin stem hip replacement it worked for a while but was never great or pain free ended up 12 years ago attending maidstone hospital when they saw the MRI they told me my upcoming holiday was canceled a room was booked for me there and then as was a day in operating theatre for the following week my misaligned metal on metal hip had caused massive necrosis of the muscle and tissue surrounding the bone surgery revealed the femur had gone floppy and I had multiple psydo tumors that needed removing I kept the led but it resulted in nerve damage and foot drop and the leg 2cm shorter than my right leg For the last few years the pain in my leg has got worse a couple of years ago I contacted my last surgeon and saw him privately he said he was to good enough to fix it, he recomended another surgeon whobi saw privately but he was unsure of doing it by now I had put on weight and had RA and some other medical issues I...

I needed a very complex knee replacement and Mr Kayani kept me informed of all the potential issues. He ordered me a hypo-allergenic knee due to my nickel allergy. He told me there was the potential for further issues once in the operating theatre and there was, but I was prepared for that. My knee replacement went very well.

My Experience with Right Knee Replacement Surgery Before the COVID-19 pandemic, I was suffering from severe osteoarthritis in both of my knees, accompanied by significant and persistent pain. I visited several different hospitals, including St Mary’s Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital and Charing Cross Hospital, in the hope of finding a solution to my condition. Unfortunately, the only treatment I was offered was steroid injections into my knees. These injections would relieve the pain for approximately two weeks, but the pain would then return. Over time, the condition of my right knee became much worse. I developed severe pain and difficulty walking, and I was limping for almost two years. About five months ago, I unfortunately fell twice because of the instability and severe pain in my knee. As a result, I went to hospital, where X-rays and an MRI scan were carried out. Mr Kayani is quite simply an absolutely outstanding Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon and also a truly talented, dedicated, kind, sincere, empathic and thoughtful human being. This exquisite combination makes him a truly first rate surgeon. I found his communication with me to be factual, clear, honest, sincere and compassionate. Most importantly, I found his ability to listen and willingness to understand the entire clinical and combined holistic scenario absolutely superb. Whilst in his presence I was also genuinely struck by his deep desire to want to help his patients attain a better quality of life. It was extremely evident just how much he cares about the patients that he works and interacts with. He invests an extraordinary amount of dedication, time and effort in order to go the extra mile, particularly for complex case patients who have been unable to access essential Orthopaedic services in their local areas due to the complexity of their coexisting medical conditions. I had my first hip private hip in 2008 following this operation I suffered from a infection which caused blood clots Then in 2020 I fell off a garage roof smashing my femur around my metal post, this was rebuilt with a new metal hip. , in 2022 I had a hip replacement in my left leg which to this day has been wonderful I think it was around 2024 I noticed some pain coming from femur of my first hip there was no problem with the hip. I was out walking one and the pain became uncomfortable this put a stop to my walking as an exercise. I then contacted my surgeon which took some time and after ex rays and scans I was told the bone on one side had come away from the spike. I was referred to Stanmore by surgeon who have been wonderful.
