Mr Arvind Mohan is a UK trained and GMC certified Consultant Plastic, Reconstructive and Cosmetic Surgeon with both NHS and private practice roles. He holds a full-time appointment at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Mr Mohan graduated from Nottingham University Medical School where he undertook an intercalated Bachelor of Medical Science (BMedSci) degree and has subsequently completed a Masters (MSc). Having gained experience in various plastic surgery units around the UK, he was selected to undertake his postgraduate specialist training on the Pan London Plastic Surgery programme, rotating through some of the most prestigious and busiest units in the country including The Royal London Hospital (Barts Health NHS Trust), Guy’s & St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust, Chelsea & Westminster Hospital and St Mary’s Hospital (Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust). He subsequently completed a
microsurgical fellowship in breast reconstruction and was selected to undertake the London Clinic cosmetic surgery fellowship prior to obtaining his Consultant post.
Mr Mohan is an expert in all aspects of acute and elective hand surgery, lower limb reconstruction following trauma and complex microsurgical soft tissue reconstruction following orthopaedic, spinal and vascular surgery. He has a particular interest in reconstruction of diabetic foot ulceration, the treatment and restoration of chronic wounds and is pioneering functional and aesthetic reconstruction in the form of superthin and ultra-low profile free tissue transfer. Using these techniques and utilising
supermicrosurgery where required, he is able to optimise function and cosmesis in his reconstructions following major trauma.
Mr Mohan is one of the few cosmetic surgeons in London who also specialises in major trauma and complex extremity reconstruction. This unique skill set allows him to seamlessly combine the functional and aesthetic aspects of body contouring surgery to provide the most optimal outcomes to his patients in terms of both form and function.
Mr Mohan specialises in body contouring surgery of the abdomen (mini, full, extended, fleur-de-lys abdominoplasty), arms (arm lift or brachioplasty), lower limbs (thigh lift, contour correction, limb implants) as well as full body lifts. He utilises advanced liposuction and fat transfer techniques to augment his outcomes when required, particularly in patients with complex contour irregularities.
Mr Mohan has published widely in the medical literature, with over 50 authorships and presentations at national and international conferences. He has served as a reviewer for the Journal of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery and is regularly invited to speak at national meetings and training courses. He is passionate about teaching the
next generation of junior doctors and is the training programme director for Foundation
year 2 trainees at St Mary’s Hospital. He is an examiner on the Trust FRCS(Plast) exam course and an educational supervisor to multiple trainees at Imperial.

Since my first consultation with Mr Mohan, I couldn't be happier with my choice of surgeon. He is very professional, kind and very thorough in his work. I'm now 6 weeks post op and I could not be happier with my results. Mr Mohan answered all my questions and my follow up care after my surgery was amazing. Honestly couldn't fault anything about him or his work. I will always recommend him to anyone.

Firework injuries, which most commonly affect hands, are increasing in frequency and severity. We present a pictorial case of a devastating hand injury following a firework explosion in a young male patient. The blast resulted in splaying of the hand with multiple fractures, neurovascular compromise and soft tissue loss. Reconstruction involved a third-ray amputation, fracture fixation, nerve and soft tissue repair resulting in an adequate hand with near-normal appearance. Firework- related hand injuries pose a significant surgical challenge due to the combination of burn and blast forces that can compromise the function of intact vessels and nerves making salvage and reconstruction particularly difficult. Here, we propose a treatment algorithm based on current literature. Our case demonstrates, what initially appeared to be an unsalvageable injury can be reconstructed to produce a functional hand if appropriate surgical measures are taken.

Background One of the main challenges in nipple reconstruction is achieving and maintaining nipple projection. We describe a novel use of banked Strattice to provide an internal scaffold and improve long-term projection following nipple reconstruction. We assess patient and partner satisfaction with the technique compared with routine reconstruction. Methods All patients who underwent nipple reconstruction in our unit by a single surgeon between 1/1/11 and 29/4/16 were identified retrospectively and asked to complete a satisfaction questionnaire relating specifically to their reconstruction. Those who underwent reconstruction with Strattice were compared with those that had local flaps alone. Results Sixty-four patients and 73 nipples were reconstructed during the study period. Eighteen nipples were reconstructed on 14 patients using Strattice. Fifty-seven patients responded to the questionnaire (90.5%). One patient developed an infection requiring removal of the banked matrix. Patients had a statistically significant increased degree of satisfaction when Strattice was used to augment their reconstruction (Mean ± SEM score 8.06 ± 0.20 versus 5.83 ± 0.16 for no Strattice; p < 0.0001). This was also the case when undressed (7.59 ± 0.15 vs 5.69 ± 0.16) but did not reach statistical significance when the patient was dressed (6.85 ± 0.19 vs 6.44 ± 0.11; p = 0.08). Patients’ partners also rated the reconstruction more highly when Strattice was used (7.71 ± 0.14 versus 6.33 ± 0.19 for no Strattice). Conclusions Our study demonstrates that the use of Strattice in nipple reconstruction can lead to significantly increased rates of satisfaction among women undergoing the final stage of breast reconstruction. Level of Evidence: III Therapeutic study.
