If you need a hip replacement, a complex hip replacement or a revision (re-do) hip consider making an appointment to see Prof. John Timperley.
John is an experienced surgeon whose specialist practice is focused entirely on hip replacement surgery using a tendon-sparing approach (minimally invasive SPAIRE technique) with MAKO robotic assistance.
He works in a team that has developed a hip that is one of the most implanted types of hip replacement in the world and one of the most successful in all national Joint Registries.
John has helped develop robotic assistance and pioneered an advanced tendon-sparing technique which he has used in all cases of primary hip replacement for the last 10 years. This minimally invasive approach to the hip is known as the SPAIRE technique which involves division (and subsequent repair) of only one small tendon. The SPAIRE technique allows patients to mobilise without any post-operative restriction to their activities and to return to all activities, without restriction. The SPAIRE technique is facilitated by the use of robotic assistance and this SPAIRE/ROBOT is Prof. Timperley's standard of care.
Professor Timperley has been President of the British Hip Society and has served on the Executive of the British Orthopaedic Association. He was awarded a Ph.D. degree at the University of Oxford and has an Honorary Chair in the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Physical Sciences at the University of Exeter.
He is involved in many research projects related to the hip in collaboration with other centres of excellence, including Sahlgrenska University hospital, Sweden, and Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane.
John is regularly invited to lecture and teach at international meetings. He has published numerous book chapters and multiple papers in peer-reviewed journals each year.

I have had excellent and professional treatment throughout and I am sure that any future patients will experience the same level of expertise.

I am most grateful to you for taking the time to provide feedback. Thank you and best wishes for there future! John
I have recently had my right hip replaced with Mr Timperley carrying out the procedure using the Spare technique. The service and Care I received from him has been second and none. I was very apprehensive about having any procedure done, but he reassured me and gave me all the facts.I couldn’t have asked for a better surgeon and one that I felt I could trust. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Timperley to anybody reading this review.

Thank you for letting me know. I am glad all went well and that you can now enjoy your new hip!
Having suffered issues with a hip replacement in March and bounced from pillar to post by GP'S and other hospitals for over 9 months it became time to do something. That something was getting an appointment with Mr Timperley very quickly. By the end of my first visit he gave a diagnosis subject to scans and tests. In no time at all the results backed up his suspicions and action has been promptly put in place. All I can say is a massive thank you for your advise and support. No hesitation in recommending to anyone.
The care and consideration I received was excellent and apart from a few ‘glitches’ ( which were probably down to my inexperience in this situation) all went very smoothly. I am most grateful to Professor Timperley and his team. Thank you.
