About Dr Andrew John Chadwick

Dr. Andrew John Chadwick is a Consultant in Respiratory and Intensive Care Medicine, known for his clinical expertise and compassionate approach to patient care. He completed his medical degree at the University of Oxford in 2008, followed by general medical training in London. He then returned to Oxford to complete specialist training in respiratory medicine through the prestigious Oxford rotation, during which he also undertook dual training in intensive care medicine.

In 2019, Dr. Chadwick was admitted to the specialist register in respiratory, critical care, and general internal medicine. He began his consultant career at the renowned Hammersmith Hospital in London during the COVID-19 pandemic, before returning to Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, where he continues to practise.

Dr. Chadwick is the NHS lead for the nationally recognised Special Airways Clinic in Oxford, where he personally reviews over 700 complex cases each year, including patients with severe asthma, chronic cough, and unexplained breathlessness. He is especially committed to identifying complex asthmatic patients in primary care and accelerating their access to advanced treatments.

Alongside his respiratory work, Dr. Chadwick serves as a full-time intensive care consultant and is the clinical governance lead for Oxford Critical Care, caring for a diverse range of patients, from those with major trauma to transplant recipients. His subspecialties include asthma, chronic cough, COPD, breathlessness, airways disease, general respiratory conditions, post-intensive care syndrome, and pre-operative risk assessment.

In addition to his NHS responsibilities, Dr. Chadwick acts as a specialist medical advisor for Whyze Health and provides commercial advice to medical technology and pharmaceutical companies. He is also available for expert witness services. He is a member of the British Thoracic Society, the Faculty of Intensive Care Medicine, the Royal College of Physicians, and is registered with the General Medical Council.

Dr Chadwick was clear and thorough in his explanations, particularly when discussing how biologic treatments could help manage my asthma. I appreciated his professionalism and the clarity he brought to the consultation. While the overall experience was positive, I had been hoping for a more comprehensive treatment approach that addressed both my rhinitis and asthma together. At times, the consultation felt quite closely tied to NICE guidelines, which limited exploration of broader options. Overall, a good consultation, with clear communication being a strong point.
