Dr Andrew Fowell

Dr Andrew Fowell is a highly experienced Consultant Gastroenterologist and Consultant Hepatologist who delivers comprehensive, patient-centred care. As a leading specialist in digestive health and liver disorders, Dr Fowell provides thorough diagnostic evaluations and individualised management plans for patients presenting with a wide range of gastrointestinal and hepatological conditions. His practice is grounded in clinical excellence, clear communication, and an empathetic approach that ensures patients feel fully supported throughout their medical care.

Dr Fowell possesses broad expertise across general Gastroenterology with a dedicated sub-speciality focus on complex liver disease. His clinical interests include non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, viral hepatitis, autoimmune liver conditions, jaundice assessment, and alcohol-related liver disorders. Additionally, Dr Fowell manages patients requiring pre- and post-transplant care for liver transplantation, as well as those with acute gastrointestinal bleeding, gallbladder conditions, and primary biliary cholangitis. He is skilled in key diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, including endoscopy, direct cholangioscopy, and transient elastography.

Dr Fowell completed his undergraduate medical education at the University of Southampton, qualifying with a Bachelor of Medicine and an intercalated Bachelor of Science in 1998. He undertook extensive higher specialist training in Gastroenterology and Hepatology across the region, during which he was awarded a Clinical Research Training Fellowship resulting in a PhD in Medicine from the University of Southampton. He holds Membership of the Royal College of Physicians and achieved his Certificate of Completion of Training in Gastroenterology and General Medicine, alongside formal sub-speciality accreditation in Hepatology.

In addition to his routine clinical work, Dr Fowell serves as Clinical Director for Gastroenterology and Hepatology, leading multidisciplinary teams to elevate clinical standards and advance service delivery. He maintains an active role in clinical research, trial participation, and medical education, regularly training undergraduate medical students and postgraduate doctors. Dr Fowell remains dedicated to expanding diagnostic capabilities, optimising therapeutic strategies, and promoting long-term patient well-being.
